Arts Events in Melbourne September 27 – October 3
Today ACMI launched its next major exhibition – Spectacle, a “dizzying exploration of music video as an art form.” The display showcases the evolution of the music video from the 1920s to modern day, and includes clips from legendary filmmakers such as Michel Gondry and Spike Jonze. It sounds amazing, and the best part is that you have until February next year to attend.
Passionate Tongues, an open mic poetry and spoken word event, will be held on Monday September 30 at The Brunswick Hotel.
Book ahead to see John Safran in conversation with Tony Wilson on Monday September 30. Safran will be discussing his confronting new book, Murder in Mississippi, a true crime story about one of Mississippi’s most notorious white supremacists.
Room to Read, an organisation focused on children’s literacy education and gender equality, is hosting a trivia night on Wednesday October 2 to raise money for an original children’s book to be written and illustrated by local Melbournians. Tickets include light refreshments and a pizza dinner.
And Adrian Deans will be launching his genre-twisting crime novel Straight Jacket on Thursday October 3.The darkly comic book has been described as “Australia’s answer to American Psycho,” which certainly makes us want to read it.
